St. Stanislaus was born in Kostka, Poland, son of a senator. At the young age of 14, he was sent to Vienna to study with the Jesuits. His family hoped that he would become a politician, but he embraced a life of prayer and obedience to God, instead of an active social life in Vienna. He was tormented by his family because of his love of God. He became quite ill and asked for the last rites. St. Barbara came to him in a vision and placed the Infant Jesus in his arms. She asked him to join the Society of Jesus. He went from Austria to Rome, Italy, at the age of 17, to become a Jesuit. Soon after entering the Jesuit order, he died on the feast of the Assumption, August 15, 1568. He was not a preacher or a writer, and only a few knew him. After his death, many cures and miracles are said to have been granted through his intercession. He was canonized 158 years after his death. He was named a patron of this parish by suggestion of Polish families who settled in this area.
